I have been pouring over Marks posts searching for a place to start and I think this is it..

Mark said to teach our right hands muscle memory with the following

Wildwood Flower

"A simple frailing technique is to use the right hand thumb and middle finger (not the index) and do a "Brush, Brush Thumb" movement. And when you want to play a tune or melody, play (brush) just the strings in "pairs" - strings 1 and 2, 2 and 3, and 3 and 4.----Try playing "wildwood flower" in the frailing style using "Pairs" of strings to bring out the melody and using the Brush, Brush, Thumb method of frailing". Little Sadie

Suggestion to expand on what you are doing.....Always give a "count" before you start playing. Be it verbal or better yet, do it with your music with pick up notes.
Another thing that will really expand your playing is exploring the concept of playing back up clawgrass/clawhammer with another instrument like a guitar or mandolin.
On "Little Sadie", try finding the same melody line in the lower notes on your banjo. Often you can play a "counter melody" in the low notes while the guitar is playing a lead melody and it will sound great.....but your timing has to be dead on to do this.....Have FUN! Mark
