just fyi, music outlet in sevierville tn has two ramsey banjos on consignment. one is a woody and the other is a student model.
the woody is around $1200 or so and the student is under $900 if i remember right. they have a website with their contact info on it.

Me too! I already have several of mikes beauties or I would jump on them.
I have a Ramsey fretless I will likely put up for sale soon to fund one of the other Ramseys I got.

Yeah, I let them know that I posted it on the BHO Ramsey group page and hoped they would follow up on it, but they haven't yet. I told them they would get a lot of exposure by posting it on the BHO classifieds and they said they'd mention it to the owner, whom they are consigning them for. I didn't get them down and look at them, but I may go back to look at another instrument and I can get more info on the price and condition and encourage them to post them here too.
We had a nice source for Ramsey banjos here in Knoxville, but that music store closed, so now it's just individuals in the area, Craigslist, etc., and usually this store doesn't have any Ramseys or Reiters or similar makers in their store, so this was unusual. Hope someone who's looking for a Ramsey can get one or both! I love both mine!!

Lisa, I want your corn husk dolls!!! Those are so great! My slovakian roots are singin. Anyway I signed on now to thank you for the info on those Ramseys. Within minutes of your first post, I called and asked them to hold the Woody for my friend who wants one badly. But then she FOOLISHLY decided against it because she wants to see and play prior to buying and it would be shipped across the country for her. She's newer to banjos so has a lot of caution whereas anyone who knows what's what would jump on it immediately if they didn't already have one (or in some cases, a few)! ;) Thanks so much...

BTW, as of last night there's a Ramsey student or special fretless on the Portland Craigslist. No tiger striped back - just dark, but has saturn. Only $800.

hey theresse,
i would make you a corn shuck doll couple if i could send them to you without them getting squashed. there are kits you can get and they are easy to make and the instruments are just christmas ornaments i picked up for them.
i hate your friend didnt feel comfortable getting the ramsey woody. it is scary sometimes ordering or buying a banjo without trying it first, but a lot of times thats the way we have to do it. i got my woody out yesterday and played it and it is so awesome the way it rings without a metal tone ring, plus its so purty!! i wish she would feel comfortable getting it but im sure it will find its way to a good home.
what ramseys do you own?

Hello everyone, I just bought my first Ramsey. Had to have it after I played it. Didn't know much about it so I'm hoping you all can help me identify the model. The serial number is #1447 and has 18 brackets if that helps? I cant see where to post pictures but I will if I can figure it out.

if you post some photos, especially of the pot on the inside and of the headstock where the tuners are, we can id it based on mikes models and their characteristics. he does make some custom models, but if we can see the tone ring on the inside of the pot as well as the pattern of the inlays on the headstock and fingerboard, that will likely be enough to tell you what model you have. hope that helps,
