July Banjo Fest in Washington, DC

From BANJOJUDY on 11/8/2011 5:20:48 PM

Just learned that the Old 78's will be playing at the annual Banjo Fest in DC - the weekend of July 13-15.

Curly will probably be doing another Cello banjo workshop, and probably Marcy Marxer too.

Adam Hurt and Bill Evans are also performing.  There will be others TBA.

I am seriously thinking about going.  Non-stop flight from ABQ to Baltimore and then we drive into Virginia and commute from there.  Done this a few times.  Lots of fun - lots of great people to meet - lots of tunes - instruction - just giving the cello folks a head's up about this.

Guys I can't say enough about these shows. I have my annual instructional technologists conference that exact week every year and my only chance to visit was the time that my conference was being held in the DC area, but if I could I'd go every year. I saw Adam Hurt, about whom I can't say enough, the Old 78s (with Clarke Buehling), Bruce Molsky, Mike Seeger and of course the incomparable Cathy and Marcy. And there are workshops! Don't miss it!

Oh - that was one of the years I went. Did we meet? I gave Mike Seeger a great, big hug - and he was so sick, but he played like a trooper. A wonderful performance that evening at the Birchmere, and the rest of the weekend was awesome as well.

I didn't get to attend the other events -- the conference and all. I should really check the dates this year, maybe I can make both. That show was likely one of Mike's last public appearances. I'm not important enough to hug anyone but did run into Hazel Dickens and said hello -- she was great, even acted like she knew who I was!!

We actually sat next to Hazel - my husband and she shared their meals with each other - Hazel wasn't big into the veggies. We had fun with her...nice lady.

My golly -- I saw where she was sitting: front and center! You guys had some good seats!

Yes we did have great seats. We were with Marcy's group. Had the same seats the next year too. Hopefully we will have them in 2012. You didn't recognize me from my Hangout pic?
