I have what probably started off in the mid-1880s as a 48-backet brass clad maple rim 5-string custom Buckbee. It was probably a custom job by Buckbee for some professional banjo player back in the day. The only thing to survive to present day was the brass clad rim with 48 bracket holes, still in perfect condition. Carl Arcand brought it back to life by custom making a whole new banjo from the original rim. It is all brass, all 48 hooks, hardware, and associated stuff. Carl also put on one of his custom masterpieces for the new neck, with all the inlay work being copied from a known custom Buckbee of the same time period. It was a great banjo. I say it was a great banjo, because I recently got Carl to kindly trade a new A-Scale neck for the standard size neck. He made it exactly the same, only shorter. I didn't think the banjo could be made any better, but Carl's A-Scale neck has made it a whole new and different banjo. I love it. It sounds great, plays great, and it is great. When I play it, I can't help but wonder what the rim has been through over the past 130+ years.
