Mucha print in colored art marker (click for images [FIXED])

From justtysen on 3/5/2013 3:56:30 PM

Done by my girlfriend from an Alphonse Mucha print, with some slight modification. Imagines are from when it was new, it's now 6 months old with no fading, though did the colors did smudge and wear off where I routinely plant my fingers. Tried to choose an image that would leave that area free but misjudged slightly.

Tell us how you applied the image.

I believe she used pencil to copy the portions of the original image that she wanted onto some tracing paper. Then she cut the tracing paper to fit the head and taped it to the inside so it was just visible on the top, then used a couple fine tip black markers (Sharpie brand) to do the outlines and whatever alterations she wanted. Then she used some art markers (not sure of the brand but any "light-fast" markers would do) to color in the areas with various shades.

Excellent! Your girlfriend has good taste in art, and you, obviously, have good taste in girlfriends!

Mucha's fame began when he was filling in for a friend at a printing house during the Christmas holidays, 1894. He got a call and learned that Sarah Bernhardt was dissatisfied with her latest poster. He took on the task of designing a new one. She was so pleased with his work that he became her regular designer. The rest, as they say, is history. So, if that hadn't happened, your banjo head would look completely different!

What a nice bit of history, thanks for sharing, Paul! Inspiration for designs can come from many different arenas.
