Like many others here, I didn't set out to buy an aluminium rim banjo - it just happened. I like my Baldwin/Ode a lot - it has a really nice neck and a bell-like tone. There is a story out there that the metal for the rims - which is aircraft grade - was culled from Stuka bombers of the German Luftwaffe. Kind of like turning plowshares into swords but in reverse. I don't know if that's true, but who cares? it's a good story. People still refer to my banjo as a 'learner' banjo, but thats the cross we alum rim players have to bear!
