I have a bottlecap Kay that is probably older than I am--it was my first 'jo--and a few days ago I dug it out of the closet to place back into service, as it is very light. I really would like to get an age range on it, but so far no dice--on the headstock it has a black circle emblem with a 'K' in it--but unlike a lot of banjos of this era, there is not an eagle to be found on it--not on the headstock, resonator--just a small one on the cheap tailpiece.....
With my shoulder and other issues, even my 'hoopie' MasterCraft can be too much for me weight-wise. Plus I figure that anything that could have happened to the Kay probably already has, so I am in the process of 'welfare re-doing' it. (new bridge--long story LOL, new head). Also if the dog knocks it over--no biggie, as before it was retired to the closet, the Blue Tick Coonhound Mix in my Avatar became quite proficient in 'tail-strumming in 2/4 time', as I left it propped in the living room. Come to think of it, she sounded better than me......
Glad to see that I'm not alone!!
