About an ODE Aluminum Rim

From wizofos on 9/5/2017 1:11:59 PM

I am considering building a long neck with a Saga rim using Rudy's through neck design for the neck.

Does anyone know if the old ODE aluminum rims were flat heads or arch tops. I know that I can't get the same sounds that Chuck Ogsbury got out of his custom cast rims but thinking that it will make a good indestructible travel banjo with a neck that I like.  I have an old Silvertone long neck with a bakelite rim that has a really narrow neck.

Thanks for any help.

Wiz, Odes came in flat and arch. The earliest (like my #52) were flat and didn't even have the Ode/Boulder name cast in them. By 1964 they were producing Archtops: Series 40 Style R = and maybe before then. omebanjos.com/wp-content/uploa...small.pdf

I built one long neck with a Saga rim and a Taiwan neck. It was pretty nice. I'd say it delivered 60% of an Ode rim. You and I once corresponded about the difference in the metal ....

Let us know how yours turns out (even pictures!)

Best,
Tom
