Hi, all, I'm in N. California (Sebastopol) starting on Old Time Clawhammer for now. So far, so good ...got thru the Wayne Ersen's Clawhammer for the Ignoramus, and now have Bob Carlin's 2 DVD's to mess with my brain. I have played in old time jams with guitar, mountain dulcimer and fiddle. Found lots of times when a banjo was so MISSED in the fiddle jams....so my curiosity and using my husband's un-used banjo hanging in the rafters has really grabbed me. I'm hooked ! I'll be looking at the members comments and bet I can learn a few things from all of you beginners, too. Ginny

I'm sure you will have fun learning the banjo and with your background in other instruments it should not be long untill you graduate to intermediate. Have fun and again welcome.

I haven't had a chance, yet, to do scales and see how things work out, so it's a big world of exploration for me on these 5 little strings and lots of frets. I like the way changing the tuning has not been as scary to me, so far, as making tuning changes on other instruments. Guess it makes me feel more familiar and comfortable with the banjo's "nature." Is Scruggs picking in my future? I don't have a clue now. Thanks, and Merry Christmas from N. California.
	Diablito says: 1/26/2012 8:08:29 PM Hey neighbor. i'm in the next town over and recently started playing. I recently started taking lessons from Steve Wharton in Forestville. You might already know him from your jams, but I like his teaching style. he specializes in clawhammer/frailing. i'm a complete newb to instruments but have felt his lessons have really helped me progress fairly quickly.
