uploaded a couple of tunes ...

Posted by zdl7754 on Friday, October 24, 2008

Se there we were, in my living room, after a week of laying down tracks for a memorial CD for our friend Wayne Sorge, who departed the planet in May, but left a treasure trove of dozens of really good songs. It's been hard to choose, but we have maybe 20 of the best. A whole bunch of various people are contributing time and effort to record the ones where we don't have a good enough recording of the master himself.

Logan brought some of his gear into town and set it up in my living/dining room, which we turned into a temporary studio. We've been adding electric guitar, saxophone, keyboard, pedal and lap steel, guitar, bass, and of course banjo tracks to some tunes already underway, and putting together some others from scratch. Lots done, a bit left to do.

Anyway, we did what we could for now, and broke out our instruments just to jam a bit. Since the gear was already set up for recording, we thought - what the hay - let's turn it on and see what we get. And we got a few. I've posted 2 here, because they're my tunes and I don't have to worry about anyone else's rights. They're both as is - recorded in one take off the floor, and mixed down to an MP3. They're rough and unpolished, as living room jams ought to be.

We're missing the sax from Where You Got To, which would usually be there if we're at a gig. Use your imagination to fill it in ...

Thanks to Doc for his guitar work, Ken for his bass, and Logan for working the gear.

Hope you like them, or at least appreciate them, since neither are bluegrass or old-time.

Oh - yes - for those of you that care about these things - the banjo used is the Stingray, tuned in dbl-C with no pedals for Prairie Boy , and tuned to G with a half-wah on Where You Got To. It's all fingerstyle, and I don't use picks.
