RSI - Repetitive Stress Injury

Posted by chuckles50 on Friday, January 19, 2007

About 3 weeks ago I developed a moderate case of strain in my left hand leaving me with some intermittent sharp pain running up the lower side of my left hand into my wrist. I can only think this must be a mild case of RSI due to over doing it a bit with my banjo. I'm a guitar player as well and perhaps I sweeze a bit too hard with my left hand while chording and sliding up the neck. I had to quit playing banjo for almost a week! When I began playing again, I took it easy, practicing only about 20 minutes a day. Things have now improved to where I'm ALMOST back to a completely pain free experience. But the week layoff and subsequent gentle practice schedule for another week or so, has had a positive effect on my ability. I'm playing cleaner (most of the time) when speeding things up a bit. So the joy conitinues. By the time I'm 65 (8 more years), I might even be almost adequate!

Playing the banjo has been a great stress reliever. So now I count 2 stress releivers in my life. The banjo and my dog (not necessarily in that order)
