Boys im highly considerin buildin my own banjo, my grandpa owns a saw mill and ive worked with wood as long as i can remember so thats not a problem material wise. i thinkin a walnut fret board, store bought pegs probly just the $11 set of geared guitar pegs. the only damn thing im havin trouble with decidin is how i should make the head (without skinnin out a groundhog), hooks. and tail peice. i can buy the bridge and stuff but i want it to look rustic, have the beauty of natural wood with the fine grain and stuff so ill finish it with linseed oil but anyway like i said i want it to be home made i really would like it to be open back but that cuts down on strenth if i was to use a metal tin wash tub or somthin along that line. best i can figure is a small galvinized wash tub would be the way to go, but still again i dont want to buy a whole lot any suggestions would be appreciated greatly

Being a woodworker myself, It sounds like alot of fun.You can buy banjo heads pretty cheap.Maybe you can dirty it up to look rustic. This sounds like something I might want to try. Keep us posted. You got me thinking now,so I better go. Good luck.
