I hope that everyone is enjoying a good New Year thus far. I've really enjoyed spending time with family and getting writing on "Banjo for Dummies" done (I'm at 80 pages and counting - working almost every day!).
My "big band," the Bill Evans String Summit, rides again for two northern California shows in late January. This is really an amazing band - Tashina and Tristan Clarridge, brother and sister fiddlers in their mid-20s, hold the last five
National fiddling championships between the two of them. They've worked out some astounding twin fiddle solos on my tunes for this band. There's also Scott Nygaard, former Acoustic Guitar
magazine editor, former guitarist with Tim O'Brien and Laurie Lewis and current member of Darol Anger's Republic of Strings and the Los Angles-soon-to-be Nashville dobro player Michael Witcher (yes, Gabe's brother). Rounding out the band is my favorite bass player Cindy Browne, who has played with both Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller (what more could you ask for in a career? :))
We're an all instrumental band, playing a lot of tunes from my CDs Native and Fine
and Bill Evans Plays Banjo
but we also feature each band member individually and in duo & trio contexts. I have four new compositions for this particular tour and I hope to be able to do a big, six piece Beatles medley. We'll see. Info on our shows is below. I hope to see you! Sincerely, Bill
