Thumbs up/Thumbs Down #2 (Sept. 15, 2008)

Posted by sjyokel on Monday, September 15, 2008

Thumbs up: Buddy Dunlap. [http://www.myspace.com/buddydunlap] This singer/guitar player/songwriter from the Winchester, Virginia, area is going to be a star.  He's played with several bands: Driving Force [http://www.drivingforcebluegrass.com/] and  Lonesome Highway [http://www.lhway.com/]--that I've heard of, and I hear he's working on a solo CD.  They're all worth checking out.

Thumbs down: Lonesome Highway.  This is the band Buddy Dunlop plays with right now (one of them).  I've heard them play, and they are all talented, but this isn't the band that will launch Dunlop's career.  I sensed some hostility on and off stage between him and banjo player when I saw them last, and they just don't have that chemistry they need to make me want to see more.

When and where did you see Lonesome Highway?  I can promise you there is no hostility between Buddy and I and there has never been.  I agree Buddy is an awesome talent and I have the utmost respect for his abilities and he feels the same about me.  We, of all band members, have had no problems with each other.   We were probably going through some band changes at that time but it is all worked out now.  Maybe we were having an off night.  Please go to the website (www.lhway.com) and listen to the sound clips of some of our originals or our video clips and let me know what you think of the band as it is now.  I can promise you that there are very few bands out there (non-pro) that have the friendship, musicianship, and "chemistry" on and off stage that we have.  We are the best of friends and love playing music together.  I would love to see Buddy make it pro if that's what he wants and we have all told him to go if he has the chance and have done our best to try to put him out there.  I'd just like to get our band (and him) in front of more bluegrass fans because I think were worthy.

Thanks for reading.....
