Finally made a breakthrough today with my technique. I was always getting hung up on the same licks and combinations and was really starting to get frustrated. I'm so used to playing a certain style of guitar which doesn't transpose to banjo all that well. So I sat down and did what I used to do when I was a kid learning guitar and just played those tricky bits over and over and over again. Slowly at first and gradually picking up speed. After repeating these runs for about a good half an hour I had a short break and came back and picked up the book from where I was up to and it all went really well. It was as if my fingers knew where to go all by themselves and could make the smooth transitions easily while I concentrated on the music. I got through the next few pages in the book really easy and I'm having a ball with it! Repetitive excersises are boring but worthwhile if they allow you to make greater progress.
