I need advice

Posted by wpowers737 on Friday, July 18, 2008

I've been on a never-ending search for banjo bargains on ebay.  Especially banjos costing between 200 and 1000 dollars.  I've become somewhat knowledgable about the going prices for lots of different models.  I buy them when I think they are underpriced and clean them up and try to resell them.  I lose most every time.   I want it to end.  The only good thing about it is the actual labor (which I love) involved in disassembling and reassembling them.   I've decided to stop looking at them on ebay and focus more on practicing.

Here is what I am seeking advice on:

I want to grow old playing a Gibson RB250.  I'd be willing to trade all 4 (I also have a Rogue openback, fully begineer) plus the needed cash for the Gibson.

Here is my multi-part  question:

Is 1400-2000 a fair range for a newer RB250 (1990's or newer)?

How much is a fair price to ask for my banjos (all of them are in excellent condition)?

Should I stick with the Alvarez 1310 Whyte Eagle (my current favorite) and abbandoned my desire for the Gibson?

Thank you for taking the time to read my dilema and I eagerly await resposes from the "banjohangout family"

sorry if I misspelled things

Wayne

Hi Wayne, first thing to do is find the gibson, then play it and see if that is compatible to you, also go to different music shops and try out their instruments, you may be surprised to find that there are other options out there just as good as gibson.

As far as determining the value of your banjos that you want to sell, the most expeditious way, IMO, is just to put them on ebay and let the market decide. Its very hard for anyone to tell you what they are worth witout seeing them. I've sold a few banjos on ebay, and it you describe them honestly and take good pictures, you should do just fine.
