Stay with me on this for a minute. A friend recently remarked that I love banjos so much because they love me back. Interesting thought but can that be possible? Let's look at this a little closer.
Don't write me off as crazy just yet. Here is my take on this subject. Banjos are made primarily of wood are they not? Wood is from trees who are most definately alive. There have been studies that propose plant life has feelings and reacts to the spoken words of humans.
Okay, you might say, well, the tree is dead so there. When people pass away I believe that not to be the end of them. Some will disagree with that but for the sake of discussion let us say that is so. Why then can not this be true of all living things? Some of us feel so close to our pets that we want to believe they have gone to a better place when their time comes, right?
Now that we can agree that the spirit of the tree is indeed alive and well within the banjo we love it is easy to think of our instrument as a living, breathing and feeling thing and not some dead collection of parts put together.
You look at your banjo with love and admiration. You hold it close to your heart and soul with affection. It is easy to see why the banjo does without a doubt love you in return. Isn't it wonderful to have this settled?? I am off now. I am taking my banjo out for an ice cream. You can now write me off as crazy.

Bro,
I would never write you off as crazy. And since I'm not even close to having all the answers, let me just say,
"Anything is possible"

Jim, I sure am glad you don't think I am totally off my rocker! There are those who would disagree with that though!!

Hi, Darrell... I don't think the banjo picks you, but for sure there's always one that really hooks you over others, even if they're all the same brand and model. And sometimes you find a banjo that drops you flat when you don't expect it. When I bought my daughter that little inexpensive Gold Tone, it was like that- I didn't anticipate that it would sound nearly as good as it does. When I bought my Prucha, it most deifinitely hooked me- it was, and still is, very unlike any other of my banjos in looks and tone. I've always looked for a banjo that wasn't at all like something I already owned... I could never see the sense in owning a bunch of banjos that all sounded very close to each other.

That never made sense to me either. I don't want two exact clones.

Theoretical physicists tend to agree with you. They believe that all mater, all energy, is based on some sort of String Theory.
A banjo, having several strings, controls a lot of matter and energy.

well if your are crazy so am I ! I know when I polish my banjo which in a sense is a message and change her strings which could be considered as brushing her hair she sounds a lot better as if telling me thank you I love you too Greg. now write me off as utterly nuts, my name says all. LOL
