July 12 and 13 will be historic in banjoland. visit

The weekend kicks-off on Saturday, July 12 with an Old Time Banjo Contest from 12:00-2:00 PM at Jammin Java, 227 Maple Ave., E, Vienna, VA. The contest will be limited to 20 registrants and 3 alternates on a first-come first-served basis. The Contest Winner will perform live on-stage in the Old Time Banjo Festival Concert. Register online at (cost is $20 per contestant). Tickets will be $5 at the door for fans and audience members. Judges Bruce Molsky and Adam Hurt will wrap up the afternoon with a mini-concert.

The fun continues Saturday evening at The Birchmere, 3701 Mt. Vernon Ave. Alexandria, VA with pre-concert dinner music at 6:30 PM (a Birchmere first!) followed at 7:30pm with the Old Time Banjo Festival Concert. This years fantastic line up will include solos, duos, trios, string bands, hoedowns, ballads and on-stage jamming with some incredible artists: Mike Seeger (Master of Multiple Old Time Banjo Styles); Roni Stoneman (From Country Musics Stoneman Family, Star of Hee Haw); Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer (Grammy-Winning Duo Performing on Cello Banjo, Banjo Ukulele, 5-String and Other Hybrids); Cheick Hamala Diabate & Bob Carlin (Grammy-Nominated Duo Mixing Banjo Styles of Mali and America); Dan Gellert (Indianas Great Artist); Paul Brown (NPR Newscaster By Day, Banjo Player By Night); Kevin Enoch, Kate Brett & friends (Marylands Best Banjo-Maker Joined By Friends) and Special Guests Adam Hurt, Reed Martin and Old Time Musics World Ambassador, Bruce Molsky. The weekend wraps up on Sunday, July 13 from 12:00-2:00 PM with four fantastic workshops for banjo enthusiasts and players of all levels. Registration costs $40 per session and class-size is limited to 15 students offering a unique opportunity to learn from the best in an intimate setting. Workshop Topics include: The Banjo Style of Doc Bogs with Mike Seeger (Instruction); From Mali to America with Cheick Hamala Diabate & Bob Carlin (Lecture/Demonstration w/some instruction); Learn Two Tunes/Songs with Dan Gellert; Banjo for REAL Beginners with Adam Hurt: Bring your own banjo or try out a new Gold Tone Banjo (the Gold Tone Banjos will be available at a special discount following the workshop for interested participants).
