Well, I finally did it... I purchased another old (roughly turn-of-the-century) banjo that needs a lot of work to resurrect. As a matter of fact, it was advertised as one that you “may want to just put on your wall as an object d’art”. I firmly believe, however, that musical instruments aren’t much good unless you can play them. So much for art. So here we go with another project. This was not a high-born instrument when it was new. The one piece neck has no fingerboard or inlays and although it seems to be reasonably straight the same can’t be said for the pot. I am sure it was round at one point in its life - not any more. The rim has an impressive 38 L-shoe brackets and hooks (missing a couple) to hold the skin head down over the wood rim (nope, no tone ring). Of course the head needs replacing so this should be an ideal candidate for me to install my first skin head.
My wife was just wondering why earth I need another banjo. I said just be happy - it keeps me off the streets.

Enjoy your project. I was in Roxbury last month for a memorial service. If I get back there again I'd like to get together for coffee...perhaps see your "project"
