Ok my first banjo my husband got from a co worker 4 years ago for 35 bucks, and all it needed was a new head. I have gotten a nicer banjo since then and I'm lending my old one to my little brother and I'm teaching him how to play. He is a QUICK learner. So in exchange for giving my brother lessons my parents are going to help me fix up that old banjo by getting new parts every so often.
and it needs a whole lot more then just a new head. 5 of teh bracket hooks have broken, the tuning pegs are old and hard to turn, the bridge is in sad shape, the pot...not great, but a little cleaning up and it will do fine. And the Tension hoop, becides being rusted it's TOO BIG! Who ever put that thing on needs a good kick in the pants. It's a 1/4 inch too big, at LEAST.
I just ordered new bracket hooks and a new bridge and my parents are just doing a little at a time so I have to wait before I add something like a tension hoop on there. But my dad is a jeweler and he has a bench at his house. So I"m going to ask him if he can size down my tension hoop to fit my banjo. That will be a little cheaper, it wont take that long either.
I want to get it in dicent shape in the next 3 weeks cause I"m going camping in june and I want a fun banjo to bring with me. So we shall see how it goes.
