Still a pretty small step for Mankind. I think I had a bit of an epiphany, or at least a breakthrough yesterday. I've been dinkin' around with different tunings, and was playing quite a bit with Double C. It's now my fave.
A few weeks ago, I stumbled across a transposition of an Irish polka that I used to play on the fiddle (back before the banjo bug took a chunk out of my hide). I could only do it in Double C, but once I got that figured out, it struck me that I might could (how's THAT for a Hoosierism?!) do the same with some other tunes. I then worked out two other tunes and tripped across a whole other OT tune. All of this in a matter of about 10 minutes.
Now my wife can't drag me away from the dang banjo. I could barely drag myself away, but I felt a need to rest the hands and check up on the world away from my music chair. 'Course, I didn't go far, as you can see.
The weirdest part of all of this is the timing. A few days ago I woke up with about 95% hearing loss in my left ear and about 5 - 1-%loss in the right ear, thanks to a delightful ear infection. (It's so bad that my ear freaked out the nurse and shocked the doctor!) All of this makes me wonder how good those tunes sound to a healthy ear. Guess I'll have to wait & see.

Hmmm. Sometimes bad hearing aids in banjo play. Certainly helps if those nearby are stone deaf.
Juuuuust joshin'. Heal fast. And enjoy!
