Ross Nickerson versus Tony Trischka

Posted by Mr. Disco on Thursday, May 1, 2008

-- Opinions are what I'm looking for -- especially from banjo players familiar with both Ross Nickerson's Banjo Encyclopedia and Tony Trischka's The Complete 5-String Banjo Player.  Mom says happy birthday and I enjoy banjo books.  I know from what people have said about Nickerson's book, I want it.  Do I want the Nickerson book because it's Nickerson's book or the Triscka book because he's Trischka and he's done it again?

They are both par excellant publications. I feel Tony's is very well written and is the superior publication. You won't go wrong wit either.

i've looked at both and they both have their merits, however, i'd recommend trischka's because i liked it better.  just an opinion though.

Thank y'all so much.  I'm a book idiot and will probably ultimately end up with both, but I'll be shredding the Trischka book first thanks to some nice recommendations
