Today I have been in the company of loved ones.I listened to music and I am thankful for the ability to do so.I spent some time playing the banjo today. That is always a source of joy to me and I give thanks for that. The knowledge that I have many friends who are but a phone call or e-mail away gives me comfort.Blessed beyond words I struggle to relay the wonderful gifts I have been given.
I appreciate the living I have done.Witnessing with all my senses the wonder that is life.I can see and feel times from days gone by the scenes layed out before me.Times of great peace and solitude. The way it feels to sit alone in the woods with the snow falling gently.Swaying almost in cadence each one lands without a sound. Each one unique much like us.Different but alike.
I can feel the sense of accomplishment derived from some manner of work I put forth that was acknowledged by someone I admired. Those whose opinions I especially sought. This comes close to pride but I do not fail to give credit to The One who has sculpted and painted the beautiful surroundings we have.
In my youth I ran and jumped like a new calf celebrating life full of energy and wonder.I had much to laugh about. Though there were times of sorrow the scales were tipped in favor of the lighter side.Older now I still feel that youth inside as if the mind can't except that which the body knows all too well. This is the way of life.
We are fortunate those of us who have seen the sunlight and felt rain on our faces in summer. The birds' songs that have reached our ears. The butterflies fluttering by.Watching a honey bee hard at work who doesn't notice me.These miracles are all around us.Ours to cherish. These are things that make up a good day.

Darrell,
I've always admired your insight and ability to put words together in a way that are such an inspiration. I've been told many times to stop and smell the roses. But as you said there is so much more to take in. Thanks for the reminder!

Hi Darrell. Yes, even if we can't leap over the five-bar gate any longer, our hearts can still race at the wonderful sights of the countryside. And that goes for playing music too (or for me, just getting even a small passage right on the banjo). Wonderful to read your thoughts. Many thanks for that. Very best wishes. Bryan

Thank you Bryan, you know, the banjo would still be fun if all I ever did was look at it and strum the open strings. I appreciate you my friend.

It is Sandra, one day at work a hummingbird flew into our building and try as we may we couldn't direct him back outside. He finally got so tired he couldn't fly.I picked him up and held him in my hand outside until he rested enough and flew away. What a great blessing for me to have held that beautiful bird in my hand for a while. That was one of those times.
