Banjo as Nekkid

Posted by Joanchek on Sunday, April 6, 2008

Mr was very tired today, so he spent a lot of time dozing on the couch, and I played a lot without picks.  I almost never play pickless--it's an interesting exercise.  One thing that's helpful about it is that you can really feel if you're hitting the strings with the same power with every finger.  Another thing is that after he left tonight for work, I put the picks back on (kiddo will sleep through anything, still!) and it was like coming home to an old friend with apple pie.  Easy easy.

Easy work week coming up;  just one directory to compile.  My only complaint with this job is that it's magazine work, and this publication pays 45 days after publication.  I have explained to them that compiling research for them is not the same as writing an article, as they can benefit immediately from the data.  The managing editor gets this, but the editor-in-chief doesn't.  I'll take the work anyway;  it'll be a nice windfall late in the summer.  And since this publication is bi-monthly, it's very good incentive to make the deadline.  I'd hate to get paid in October for work done in April!

I know what you mean.  My editor is twiddling with my book and now it looks like it won't go to press for another month or so.  If that happens, I won't see any money till maybe the fall.  The publishing business is kind of a pain that way.  They have so many people out there wanting to be writers, they can abuse the ones that are half decent because they know they can pick up replacements cheap.

Ah, well.

Tom
