I Stink ant the Banjo...

Posted by gkuchan on Friday, March 21, 2008

But really don't care. God it's wonderful to come to something later in life and have absolutely ZERO pressure to have it be anything more than what it is. Three weeks into Clawhammer two at the Old Town School of Folk Music here in Chicago, and boy I'm still having a heck of a good time with this...And still haven't even thought about having a cigarette. But have been dreaming about my Creolized Chuck Lee Banjo, which I design over and over in my head. Something which looks like it was ripped out of the Bayou, but could be just as comfotrable having tea at the court of two ladies. Is there something inherently wrong with thinking about asking a texan to make a French Quarter Banjo? But anyway the point of this post truely is just to say, I don't care how bad you think you may be at the Banjo...I'm worse...But no one is having a better time than me. So find joy in the fact that that D cord is tough, or the C7th nearly impossible at this stage. It just doesn't matter. There is a reason they callit PLAYing the Banjo.

Hi Grant - quite right! I'm a mere beginner at banjo, and just trying to learn basic rolls - but couldn't agree more! Never had so much fun in my life!! Best wishes from the UK. Bryan

Spot on. And I keep drooling over a beautiful Fielding Northstar with custom inlays and carving. One day..........! Thanks for the bridge tip by the way, I may just give the Samson a go.

Thanks for saying hi on my homepage.  Glad to hear there are other Hayseed Dixie fans out there.  I saw them a few years ago.  One of the funniest and livliest nights out I've ever had!
