Larger planes have the larger overheads. There shouldn't be any problem. I always ask to use the locker up front, (if they have one). The banjo case goes all the way to the back and doesn't interfear with anything in the locker. If not it goes in the overhead just fine. If the ticket counter says that you have to check it, you don't. Just tell them that you'll gate as last resort. I've only had to gate check once because of the small plane.
