My first banjo project

Posted by tomthacker on Saturday, March 8, 2008

This is the first banjo I built. The head is a cookie tin, and the neck is a poplar board. I used a pencil for the bridge and the nut, ukulele strings. The tuners came from the flea market. It was confiscated by my grandson about five minutes after I finished. There was a lot I didn't know at the time (still true). One of the strings was almost to short, and the neck is much to long for a soprano uke. It is however, almost the exact scale of a baritone uke, I wish I had known that when I bought strings. Ethan played with this for a month or two then it ended up in my closet where I found it this morning. I managed to get him to pose for a few pictures but nowdays he want to play my banjo or my fiddle.

if anyone is interested I put some photos of the canjo on my photo page.
