Thanks to a variety of fund raising efforts on ebay and the HO I am now the proud player - it owns me - of a 1979 Stelling Whitestar. I bought it from another member who was kind enough to work with me. I spent the week checking on the tracking information! I also have purchased a nearly new Ameritage case from another member which will arrive next week. Meanwhile I can't keep my hands off the Stelling. My wife celebrated her birthday the day the banjo arrived and was kind enough to ask me to serenade her - I did.
I have been also experimenting with various set up variations and am in the process of trading off some bridges. When in my building mode I seemed to acquire a variety of heights and makes. I have now settled on the Snuffy Smith uncompensated w/ Crowe spacing. The banjo is now set up as I like her. My sadness is that I am not sure that I can take her with me to Belize and Peru where I will spend April and May. That is OK as I will take a smaller openback.
I have thinned out the herd of banjos and may have to face the prospect of letting go one of the Gibson parts instruments. One of these is still a project as I am getting a Huber rim and OPF to try in place of the TPF walnut beater rim I have been using. Why change when it works? I am a "P" person on Meyers Briggs and always looking for some new possibilities around the corner
Thanks John for the prospect of getting together in New England. I am looking forward to retirement but actually will also be working some so as to keep health coverage. I expect to be part time in Vermont and the rest - who knows, only God.
I am posting some pics below. Good of you to read my ramblings

Ian, I give you joy, my friend; what a fine banjo! No, you don't need to use this one for an underwater beater while on vacation. Take it to the bank vault while you're gone. Regards, Ken
