Spent tonight switching between a Patrick Street special on TG4 (our irish language TV station) and Kieran Hanrahan's "Ceili House" radio programme on RTE Radio 1. Best bit of the Patrick Street special was the mighty John Carty playing banjo, fiddle and the flute. He is one of my favourite banjo players and one of my favourite musicians in general. Last month he played at the Roscommon Arts Centre (only 30 minutes away from my house) with Matt Molloy and Arty McGlynn and I actually MISSED it because I mixed the damn days up!!!!
Just uploaded another tune - "Dancing Eyes", a jig I've been learning with my banjo teacher. Been taking lessons once a week now for 4 months and it's been brilliant. I've been learning tons - not just tunes and techniques, but also the story and background behind the tunes.
The 4 banjos I've been drooling over in the past few months:
--Vega Style X
--Orpheum No. 3
--a beautiful Stromberg quite similar to mine except it has a spin on resonator
--Lange made Triple X

Must be lovely to be in the midst of all that wonderful music over there. My wife and I and daughter and son-in-law are driving over to Dallas tomorrow (about 200 miles) to attend the North Texas Irish Festival. We have to import our genuine Irish musicians, but we got some pretty good ones among those of us of Irish descent here in Texas.
Enjoyed your music.
