tailpiece and bridge

Posted by Mr. Disco on Wednesday, February 20, 2008

-- Next project is replace the stock lightweight crooked Iida tailpiece.  -- Specs:

  1. Straightline spacing because Bill Keith makes sense to me when he says there's no point in putting tension laterally on the outside strings.
  2. It's gotta fit onto an Iida banjo.
  3. Heavier and adjustable is preferable.  More costly is not preferable.

I'm also going to start considering a 5/8-inch bridge to replace the 1/2-inch Snuffy Smith.

Good idea, I am a fan of the Goldtone straight line tailpiece. Not expensive at all, and I'm also a fan of the 5/8th soseebe bridge.

5/8ths is purty standard and when you gravitate to your next banjo chances are it will be fitted with one of these.....

Dear Messrs. 5- and fat- --

What you both say makes sense and gives me confidence going in that direction.  Maybe I'll go with the reasonably priced Goldtone straightline and Hatfield compensated as my birthday present to me.
