Have you ever asked that question? I don't mean in the day to day situations we go through. It is easy to see that much of the time nobody pays attention. You know ,when you call back to check on something and talk to the same person you did yesterday and they don't have a clue what you mean. Not that stuff.I take that for granted anymore.
I think what I mean is when you play your instrument or sing with all your heart. Is anyone listening? Then sometimes I wonder if it matters whether or not they are.I doubt the birds' songs are sung to benefit those of us on the ground.Who are they singing for then?
The water running over rocks down the mountainside performs without audience much of the time. The times I have been lucky enough to hear it I have felt unworthy in some ways.I have listened many times at the whipporwills' song at night and felt a meloncoliy mood sweep over my soul.I know the lonely bird was not aware that I was taking in his every note. All the same I was touched by them.
Are the notes drifting up in the air only to die out and be forgotten? You could consider this to be true if indeed there was no ear for the notes to fall on.My belief is that never has a note risen that has gone unheard.Nor has it been forgotten.Somewhere there is a collectrion we have as musicians added to many times.I believe the notes return to their origin, their home.Their Master. Our Master.

BEAUTIFUL THOUGHTS! and I believe you are correct when you say not one note has risen that has gone unheard. The Master hears us and the Angels and they silently applaud our every song.

I hope the lonely blackbird that sings me to sleep almost every night from the tree in my allotment knows that somebody is listening. It has the most beautifull voice.

Thanks Ira. Sandra, I'll bet the blackbird knows you enjoy the songs she sings and does them just for you.
