It has been one month since I first picked up the banjo! Lately I have been learning several versions of Old Molly Hare, and this song has really started to make things click in this brain of mine. I have been combining the different methods and come up with a way to play the song that I just really enjoy. Drop thumbing is really really fun!

The Zoom H2 is on my Christmas list, and I think I've been good this year. Sound files to come! I can't wait to get some feedback on my playing. It is hard to tell if I am playing well, or it just sounds good in comparison to how horrible I was before.

My brother is getting married on December 1st. We will be making the 8 hour drive and staying at my parents house for a few days. I want to bring my banjo to practice but I am still a little nervous to play for the family. I don't mind bugging my husband with it all the time, but my parents house is going to be packed with relatives from all over. While I am on the subject of the wedding... I am honored to be a bridesmaid but honestly, who picks out a sleeveless bridesmaid dress for a December wedding in Massachusetts?!

Erin, recording yourself is the very best gauge of your progress. When your Zoom arrives, don't go for perfection. Just turn it on and play the way you always do, download the file and forget it for a few weeks. THEN go back and listen. Great motivator!

I understand completely how you feel ! I started playing in Feb of this year and refused for the first 3 months to let anyone hear me play!! Now they struggle to get away from me! Do have to say that I'm not a real electronics person, what's a Zoom?
