I have been bitten by the banjo bug! I have no idea what happend... one minute I was listening to punk rock same as always, and the next minute I couldn't get enough of the old time banjo.
I have purchased (somewhat impulsively) a Deering Goodtime, and hooked up with a clawhammer teacher in the area. I am still **terrible** but I cannot wait until I can knock out some tunes. At least I am at the point where I don't give myself a headache everytime I practice anymore. Boy am i glad that stage is over.
I can't imagine that anyone is really interested, but I will try and keep posting with updates of my progress.
Oh and I have to say... it is not just the banjo that I fell in love with, but the banjo community too.

Erin, this banjo-thing is a great journey and you'll have a great time. I grew up in the DC area--face NoVa and wave for me.

I know how you feel. I rarely listen to the stuff I've listened to for 36 years. Keep thinking it's a phase, but I don't know. Can't get enoug of that hard drivin' sound. Love clawhammer too, but can't afford the time to learn it as well. The tunes will come sooner than you think.
