Finally! Better sound from a $200 banjo!

Posted by salishsilver on Monday, October 1, 2007

I went to Greg Boyd's last week (I've been traveling for work and am just now posting) and got a new bridge, and Greg tuned up the Fender.  What a huge difference!  I actually need to use the "tone enhancer" I picked up a couple of weeks ago.  It has for some reason a 1/2 inch bridge, and all he had was 5/8 and taller.  He looked through his box and found an Emerson Power bridge, and a little sanding and Bingo! a better bridge was ready and installed.  the 5th string nut wasn't quite right, and he fixed that too.  the old bridge had a 4th string notch that was about 3X as wide as the string, and that had always sounded a bit dead.  I never thought to look at it.  silly me, should pay more attention.  All in all, a trip well worth the time, the Fender sounds like a much bigger banjo now!  Still looking at the Prucha on the wall.  It might be time to enjoy some of the retirement money.

I've got a maple Prucha Legend. Wouldn't trade it for anything I really  believe you'll get more banjo for the buck by buying a Prucha from Greg. Nope, he doesn't give me a commission, but it's OK if you mention it to him for me.

Like I said, the retirement fund is calling for a banjo I can play 'til I'm old and gray.  wait one damned minute, I'm already gray!   (just not old) Where in the heck is that retirement rep's card?  I'm gonna see him next week any way, so I'll see what the possibilities are.
