Why doesn't someone create an app that will superimpose five string banjo tab onto the five lines of the musical staff. I would be happy to pay a few dollars for that one. I have done some by hand but I have no programming skills. I think notes should be full size and the tab shown as reduced font. When the note and tab are in the same spot such as F on the top line of the staff you just place the tab number above and to the left of the note, or just beside the note .

TablEdit and even the free TabRite use elements of standard notation (5-line staff for banjos, 6-line staff for guitar, quarter notes, eighth notes, etc., measures, time signatures (4/4, 3/4, 6/8, etc.)) So you get the benefits that you are asking for.

It could be done, however, there are several different places on different strings where the same note can be located, so it would be difficult to properly and correctly do that. Also, you'd be seeing notes above the 5 staff lines and it would be difficult to decipher.
