Last year I had a custom build order for an all walnut banjo with some specific details but not too over the top. The tone ring was a rolled brass, the fretboard was Richlite with dots and a star on the 5th fret. Really it was a mid level old-time open back banjo.
Just as I was about to finish it, the customer canceled the order due to covid and I decided to use it to play for a performance banjo. The banjo was great! I decided that while I had it, I would give my 11" tubaphone a restore and upgraded its original Tru-oil finish to a more waterproof General Finishes clear coat. While playing the new rolled brass tone ring banjo (with a 3 ply steam bent rim), I decided this would be a great banjo to offer on a regular basis, just like my little birdie model.
So I decided to make it available, and it sold almost instantly to a banjo student of mine. From what he says, he's really enjoying it. Today it dawned on me to ask him to review it, so soon it wil be available in the BHO review section. I am calling it the Barn Owl SBO-11 (where 11 is the rim size).
