11/15/2019 ... My wife and I have just picked up the names of two children from a local "Angle Tree". I highly recommend this activity. We began this tradition in 2007. I was moved to share our initial experience ...
A Christmas Tradition Born [Christmas 2007]
My wife and I don't have children and we live distant from family. Our wedding anniversary is just a few days before Christmas. We usually take a vacation, at Christmas, to celebrate the Wedding Anniversary. We are rarely at home on Christmas so we don't decorate or get into the buying of presents. My Wife is Christian and I'm not. As a result of all of these factors we haven't made much of a Christmas tradition in our lives.
However, this past weekend Margaret (my Lovely Wife) picked a child’s name from a local "Angel Tree". Some know that's a charity that gives people the opportunity to donate Christmas gifts to a needy child.
She selected a two year old girl.
So off we went to a department store. We bought a stuffed Teddy Bear and a picture book. Then we went to the clothing department. We started picking out shirts and pants. Shoes and socks were next. We were running around like we were 14 year olds, with big-ole smiles on our faces! I picked out a sweater, but then I really noticed how small it was. Margaret was off picking out a coat. Once again, we meet back in the middle of the toddlers section to "confirm" each other’s selection. We still had smiles on our faces but with tears running down our cheeks.
Christmas has come early to us this year! I'm proud to say that we now have a Christmas tradition to share with each other. ...
... hopefully for many more years to come.
