This is the November edition of my Foggy Mountain Banjo project for 2018: Lonesome Road Blues.
This was the first tune I worked on when I first got Bennett Sullivan's recordings of the main breaks from the Foggy Mountain Banjo album, back in 2015, I think. I was pleased with myself when I worked out how to play this by ear, but at the time I did not have a copy of Earl playing the tune. I soon got a copy of the album, and became discouraged when I heard that Earl played it about four times faster than my top speed. I stopped working on the Foggy Mountain Banjo stuff and focused on some other things.
Now I'm less concerned about playing fast than I used to be (I'm still concerned about it , but I won't let the fact that I can't play fast stop me from working on things), and I'm happy enough to post this slow version of Lonesome Road Blues.
I seem to have less time at this end of the year, so I just worked on the break that's tabbed out in the Scruggs book (1st Ed). To practice it, I played along with Earl on the Amazing Slowdowner. There are other cool breaks that Earl plays on this tune, but I'll have to leave those for future work.
Next time, I'll post Ground Speed. I hope I get it recorded before the end of the year, but that's looking unlikely at this stage.
