Refuge.
Tonight i found refuge in my banjo. Candles lit, my year long christmas lights lining my windowsill. I went to practice a tune i have recently been workin on. It was a long day, a bit more stressful then usual. Nothing too different outside of the regular grind and the usual wearing down of the work week.
Something cool happened.
The practice naturally turned into me just...playing. even more so amazingly, the sense of refuge that washed over me when i just sat back, felt the breath and played.
No goals, no destinations, just playing.
I feel silly saying this, but im not sure ive ever really just played like this as much as i did tonight. I am not some expert and i struggle regularly with my relationship to my instrument. Sometimes we fight, sometimes it is even volatile. Other times we fit together perfectly and meet each others needs with ease. Either way, Its ALL worth it.
Ive gone to write here and record my experiences many times. Ive held back and for one reason or another have not consistently been committed to recording my thoughts and sharing them . I think i am going to change that. So many amazing expediences during the short time i have been playing, among them, very difficult bouts as well.
I am so grateful. This could really be a thing i love. This really IS a thing i love.

It sounds like you got into the zone. It doesn't happen often for me, but, when it does, its a great feeling. Keep picking.
