"Submitted For Your Approval . . ."
Many years ago after I attended my last banjo rally, it occurred to me that Rod Serling missed out on a great idea for a Twilight Zone banjo-rally episode. It would have gone something like this:
An average run-of-the-mill guy wakes up one morning into a world where literally everybody plays the banjo----except him. He absolutely hates banjos, but everywhere he goes, people have banjos regardless of what they're doing. Doctors, lawyers, butchers, bakers and yes, even candlestick-makers have their banjos around their necks at all times. Banjos are ubiquitous. There are banjos in hospital operating rooms, banjos onboard the International Space Station, school buses full of banjo-toting kids and everybody at the United Nations has a banjo in their lap. Everywhere you look: it’s banjos, banjos banjos! Even the nightly news is nothing but thirty solid minutes of banjo stories. The entire culture of the globe has gone banjo-crazy overnight. And he's the only sane guy left in this global banjo loony-bin. Just when he thinks he can't take one more plink or plunk, he gets abducted by aliens. At first, he's very relieved that they're taking him away from all the damned wretched banjo music----and then he gets the shock of his life: All the aliens on the ship and everybody on the planet they're taking him to plays the ACCORDION !!!
As the camera pans away from this dreadful closing scene, we see Rod with a banjo in his lap as he tells us: "Beauty not only lies in the eyes of the beholder, but can also firmly lodge itself in the beholder's ear. If you’ve ever had a tune you just couldn't get out of your head, then perhaps you've come very close to this kooky little corner of.......The Twilight Zone."
Duh nuh nuh nuh...duh nuh nuh nuh....duh nuh nuh nuh....duh nuh nuh nuh....(on the banjo of course.) "Please file this one under "humor" in the TZ."

This is hilarious… And clever too. It would make a great twilight zone episode… In another universe.
