I ordered Earl's book tonight. Merry Christmas to me. I had a good practice. I played along with one of my lessons and really felt that I could keep up much better than I had in the past. Progress. :)

Yes Kate is does make one feel good. A few moths ago I never thought I would be able to do that...it never seemed to work out and I would get lost in the tune if it went faster. Now I can do it much better :)

Judith511 That is good to hear. I remember the days, the frustration. Just keep at it, go slow (that is don't try to move on before you are comfortble with your current material.
The Scruggs book is the number one reference for bluegrass pickers. It is not that easy for beginners, but a good second reference. For example - your learning Cripple Creek? Follow your instructor or current method, learn it, then compare it to the Scruggs book. I think somewhere someone TABBED the tunes (in TEF format) but I can't remember where I saw that. The book comes with a CD of the recordings, I believe.
