Boadicea That's great news, Kate! You'll take your banjo for sure. A couple suggestions. As you listen make a song list. Jams tend to have the same songs repeated each session, so you will know what to work on. If at all possible write down also the key (sit next to someone that plays guitar - they will be able to figure the key from the way the guitar player plays the chords). Bring a small recorder if you have one. Don't be afraid to try to pick along - find a spot in the back or away from those that are listening, so you won't bother them. Most important - HAVE FUN!

***busily writes down a to do banjo jamming list***
1. take banjo
2. write down songs
3. write down the key the songs are played in
4. record the jam so I can hear it again and listen
5. sit away and pick quietly at the back, (if I get brave enough)
6. play away to people who are listening so that they can listen :)

Hi Kate, I live in Melbourne but I'll be in Brisbane next week, not far from that location. Is it an open jam ? Just wondering if I could go too. I understand if it's only for members or friends etc.
Either way, I hope you enjoy it.

Here are the details:

There is a bluegrass jam 7pm 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month at Hills Christian Church Queens Rd Everton Hills, which is a northern suburb of Brisbane.
I know that might seem a long way to come but we have people coming from Nerang, the Sunshine coast and even Toowoomba!
and they keep coming back, so it must be ok!
Anyway you would be most welcome to come along and join in, or just watch & listen if you like.
It is a friendly jam run by some great guys Peter & Paul and we seem to have a good time most nights.
Hope to see you there sometime
If this is not okay martzepan I can delete it.

Thanks Kate. I'll see if I can make it, but there's a good chance I won't.

@Boadicea if you can travel 1 1/2 hours for a jam, I guess I could get off my butt and travel 45 minutes to the one near me. Thanks for the prodding. Keep picking.
