Silent Banjo for Over the Waterfall

This morning I awoke early. It was too early for playing even my sock/clip muted banjo.

I thought for a bit, thinking there must be a way of completely silencing the banjo without affecting playability, especially playing on the neck scoop. And there is.

I took a paper napkin and folded it. Put it under the strings near the bridge. Then slid it towards the neck, stopping at the edge of the pot.

The result was a perfectly fingerable silent banjo. Obviously not brilliant for all practice as without aural feedback you've got to be careful. However,  for extremely slow tablature to fingers stuff I was doing it proved extremely effective in providing practice time which would otherwise have been absent.

So, a bit of 'Over the Waterfall' practice this morning. More to go.

Is it ever too early to play banjo?

Not for me.... But when you are in a flat(apartment) surrounded, it sometimes can be for your neighbours...

A creative and resilient solution AndyW! Can you show as a photo of what that looks like?
