Site update: search fixes, bug squashing, and upcoming priorities

Here's our latest list of fixes and upgrades which we've rolled out. Please note that there are other fixes being done as well, but some of them are so esoteric they really aren't worth explaining here... so I don't! 7 down, 57 to go!

  1. Fixed a bug that was causing the lefthand navigation column to load and cover up the site content on people with a particular screen resolution (800 pixels wide). We found our code was almost right... we were off by just 1 pixel!
  2. Fixed the tabs, video, and MP3 quicksearches so it returned better results consistently
  3. Get scrollbars again on the composer windows for forum quick replies and blog comments.
  4. Fixed rich text editor issue where popup dialogs were opening behind the lefthand navigation
  5. Made the advanced search forms be "closed" when viewing search results for classifieds, videos, and MP3s. This makes the page less crowded.
  6. Enlarged attachment images in forum posts (both photos and videos).
  7. Fixed bug which was causing some of the sitewide search results (from Google) to be cut off.

Here are our current priorities:

  1. Letting members modify notifications for tagging. This will give you the option of not getting emailed when you are tagged.
  2. Letting members decide which types of content are displayed under "Newest Posts' in the righthand column.
  3. Getting Groups back up and going

Onward!

Eric you really need to make the Group's your highest priority, a lot of folk's on this side of the pond are feeling a bit let down, and neglected. Here in the UK we rely on the UK5 Group to see what's going on ie/ local pick's, small festival's etc, etc.

I agree. No matter what side of the pond you are on, many of us use the Groups as our primary reason to come to Banjo Hangout. Without them, I rarely visit. Crossing our fingers that you will tackle getting the Groups back ASAP. Thanks.

I totally agree. The UK5 group is a great way to get information out to everyone interested.
Come home UK5, all is forgiven!!

Great job Eric, but they seem to still only indicate PST local time and not the my local time.
That would be a great help, especially when we are 8 ours or more ahead.
Thanks
Andy

schlange . Also I don't seem to be getting notifications of new threads in the Group (UK) and cant see where to switch this on generally for the group. Thanks again.

I would like to see the friend feed under the Newest Topics feed on the first page you come to. IMO the main purpose of the Hangout is for people to interact with others. Your friend feeds gives you the access to comments from people who talk you want to hear. Having it on the first page increases you likelihood of finding interesting and pertinent conversation as you see it at first glance as opposed to having to go hunt for it.

Hi From Greylock to Bean Blossom,

That's included in our list of 3 main priorities listed above... it will be included under "Letting members decide which types of content are displayed under "Newest Posts' in the righthand column."

We're going to set up filters for the right-hand column, so you can decide what TYPE of content to show (forum topics, videos, MP3s, tabs, etc) as well as whether you want to see those from EVERYONE or just people on your friends list. Should be quite flexible yet easy to use once it's in place.

Thanks as always Eric.
