I stopped by Pisgah Banjos on my way home from the High Point Furniture Market today. Had a great visit with Patrick and the crew. The shop is very cool - Looks like they are making plenty of great banjos these days. I picked up one of their new Hawk Tail tailpieces to try.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. I've got a Pisgah Rambler and was considering upgrading to the hawk tail tailpiece. Would you say it's worth doing?

I picked this up when I visited the shop a few days ago. Have been waiting until I change strings on one of my banjos to give it a try. So I can't really comment about it yet - other than to say that it is very well made and attractive. I like the design.
In general, my experience with lots of various tailpieces leads me to believe that this design will probably help "tame" some of the overtones that are present with a no-knot. I personally don't use no-knot tailpieces because they sometimes sound too "tubby" for me. I prefer a more focused tone (with "controlled" overtones). Best Wishes!

I was thinking about getting one of these and was wondering if you had an update or further general opinion?
