I wanted to let those of you in Oregon and Washington know that I'll be playing concerts with guitar great Dan Crary and mandolin wizard Martin Stevens in Portland, OR and Seattle & Bellingham, WA this coming weekend, along with teaching a Seattle workshop on melodic & single-string styles at Dusty Strings on Saturday, January 28 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Here's all you need to know, with links:

Saturday, January 28: Seattle, WA, Dusty Strings banjo workshop, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. "Exploring the FIngerboard in Melodic & Single-String Styles." Experience the progressive sounds and techniques of today's leading players with this down-to-earth, hands-on session enabling you to play everything from fiddle tunes and jazz standards to Bach. This class is ideal for those just getting started with these approaches as well as more experienced players who want to deepen their knowledge o the logic behind each approach. Map out scales and fingering positions in various keys and get comfortable finding melodies and creating licks that you can use in all kinds of tunes. Click here for more info and to register. $40.
