What a fantastic time I had at Clifftop this year!! It was my first visit, and God willin' and the creek don't rise, it will just be the first of my annual trips to the hills and hollers of West Virginia. Perfect Happiness was mine to be camped and playing music or hearing music waft through the trees and campground! It was serendipitous that I unknowingly camped next to Ralph and Charlee Roberts from Frametown, WV, and with whom I hope to have begun a life-long friendship in addition to the many hours of enjoyment from hearing Ralph's fiddle (and banjo!). I probably got a bit overwhelmed by the magnificence of the experience, enjoying the porch picking at times while, at others, foregoing the jams just to listen to the early morning fiddles as I went to sleep. And gosh dang if I didn't end up missing hearing -- playing with -- Adam Hurt and Beth Williams Hartness at the other end of the camp. IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO CLIFFTOP -- and if you like Old Time, fiddles, banjos, fireflies, camping in the mountains, sunsets, rainbows, friends, sunrises, laughing, strawberry milkshakes, or being in a place where they all happen at once...you would love it! AND -- if you are a Westerner or Northerner who is worried about WV temps in the middle of July: yes, it is warm. But not too bad. And I'm an Alaskan warm/weather wimp 😎
