Well... on the spur o' the moment in April, I (we) decided to put our house in NE Colorado on the market and set our sights on SE coastal Georgia!
Here's the sequence o' events:
1. Faux Spring arrives on the Front Range... only to be snapped by a snow storm! 2. Week or so later, seems like Spring has finally come... but NO, mo' snow! Shoveling the wet stuff was not how i envisioned retirement... not in May, fer sure.
Meantime... wife attends niece's wedding down in sunny St. Mary's GA... and whist takin' me through the festivities on her MacBook upon her return... shows me the website of a "resort like" development where her brother rented a house some years ago.
I look at a few homes there and the amenities... it's gorgeous... and the first words outta my mouth: "we can do that"!
Immediately call a realtor... 4 sale sign goes up Friday (good weather now)... 4 offers by Monday... all asking price or higher!
Dang... that's super sweet, but now we have to find a place - pronto. So... burnin' the internet plus emails/phone... find a realtor and house... place a contract pending a visit and inspection. I drive down (leave 1 of our 3 cars)... fly back... done and done!
Now the slog through the financial stuff... planning the moving logistics/route/waypoints... closing the home in CO... and later in GA, etc., ad infinitum.
Best part is we made it: no disasters, and we love it here. Minutes from JAX International airport and the city... not to mention the beach!
Driving the Penske Rental, which i loaded to the gills to save some $$ (movers took what we could not)... with my car in tow, had to be the worst... over 2K miles o' misery. Wife followed behind... patiently, with son and pets in tow.
(As an aside, i have moved myself many times and have become rather good at packing a truck... and was proud to show the wife that the load shifted... NOT at all!)
Anyway... today i tuned up the banjers... and played some for the first time in several weeks. Now, it really feels... like home.
(My wife grew up in Dalton GA, and i'm from Atlanta... and i spent several Christmas holidays camping with friends amongst the dunes and palmettos on Cumberland Island, which is just off the coast here... so very familiar with this wonderful area)
Moral of the story: if you want something... if it truly speaks to you, then... make it happen!

Agree wholeheartedly with the "if you want something, make it happen" sentiment - that's pretty much how we came to be living in the lovely place we have now! Congratulations on the move Ken - wishing you and your family much happiness in your new home:)

Geez Doc, nothing like shoveling snow for a couple of hours to get you in the mood and your fingers nice and nimble for some banjo playing (well, maybe a day or two later). :( Glad you and the family and the banjers had a safe trip and best of luck in the new digs. Just make sure the AC keeps working smoothly.

Right on Debbie-Do... sounds like ya made a good (bold?) choice as well!
Rick'ster: didn't mention that both me and my son have Raynaud's, and cold exposure to my hands (and his hands and feet) lead to vasospasm and numbness. Amazin' that i could pick a'tall on some o' them "frosty morns".
Yer right as rain on the A/C sir... best to "slow down" in Summer 'twixt noon n' 4! Lookin' forward to GREEN, year-round tho' ;->)

Ken, sounds like you made a "gut decision" and one of them never let me down yet! Anyway, you both being from GA originally, you are merely "coming home". Congrats and - Oh yeah - don't forget to apply sunscreen.

Thanks so much Doug... yep, it's a "peach" of a state! Worked out "MagPie" today (eazy-peezy) and workin' on an original... may record one tomorrow, depending on house chores;->)
Absolutely true BigL... i was even surprised when i emphatically stated it... virtually "out of the blue". But it turns out there were some reasons lurking in the murky world of the subconscious that suddenly took center stage... and the rest, is history.
Yep... i'm all over the SPF 50 ... or actually, it's all over me;->) Oh, and DEET me, would ya?
