I signed up a couple new students this week from 'across the pond' and it dawned on me what a boon Skype and online teaching in general has been to the banjo community. Im proud that I was probably the first teacher to give lessons online, way back in the mid 2000's or so. What ive taken for granted at times is the distances involved and how technology closed that gap. The current list of current and former student locales is, off the top of my head: Norway,Sweden, the UK (GB,Ireland,Scotland), Thailand, the Philippines ,New Zealand,Mexico,Peru,Canada,Hawaii, Jamaica, South Africa, Russia,Ireland and all 50 states including Alaska. Its wonderful to see American folk music spreading across the world and to see technology allow people everywhere to connect in it and share and learn!
