Went to the Kieran Hanrahan workshop at the Feakle Festival this weekend - it was a 3 day workshop but I missed the first day of it as I was working. I really enjoyed it, we learned 3 tunes - "The Tongs by the Fire", "Tommy Bhetty's Waltz", and "Kilcooley Wood". Kieran was dead on, very easy going and a good laugh. There was great "banjo-spotting" to be had: a Paramount Style A, a Windsor, a nice Ludwig, two Vegas, what looked to be a recent-ish Gibson, and the fella sat beside me today had a lovely Oakwood (Angelina Carberry plays one of them I think, they were made in Leeds, UK) Got quite a few compliments on the Stromberg, so I was well chuffed. On the modern banjo front there was a smattering of Clareens, a Gold Elite, a Pearl and a few Specials, and Kieran was playing a Deering Calico. Feakle is a nice wee festival and I'm definitely gonna try to attend again next year. Arrived back home late this afternoon, walked and fed me dogs and then took out the banjo again for another 2 hours!
